Botox Q&A

What are Botox and Xeomin?

Botox and Xeomin are two similar types of injectables that smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. These unsightly lines form from years of muscle contractions when you smile, frown, laugh, or have other facial expressions.

Both Botox and Xeomin are made from a purified form of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum toxin type A. Dr. Jackson injects them directly into certain muscles in your face, depending on your desired outcome.

The injectables go to work immediately to stop excessive muscle contractions, so all you’re left with is smoother, younger looking skin.

Are the injections painful?

The needles used for injections are very thin. Depending on the injection site, you might feel some initial pinching, but it only lasts for a split second. If you’re sensitive to pain or are really uncomfortable during your appointment, Dr. Jackson can provide a topical numbing cream that can make your treatments more tolerable.

Does the injection treatment take a long time?

No. The injections themselves take less than 10 minutes to put into place. By the time you check in, get your injections, then check out, you can be in and out of the office in less time than it takes you to get lunch.

If you need numbing cream, you might need to give yourself a little extra time, so you can apply the cream before your appointment and give it time to numb your skin.

Will I need time to recover after my injections?

No. Adults with more sensitive skin might have some redness and swelling in the treatment areas after their injections.

These effects are only temporary and often disappear within a few hours. Aside from that, you won’t have any downtime or recovery period. You can go right back to your normal activities after leaving your appointment.

How long do results last?

You’ll probably start noticing a difference in your appearance before you leave Dr. Jackson’s office. Most patients notice even more improvement after 1-3 days. You may even continue seeing a reduction in wrinkles for up to one month after receiving your injections.

Optimal results typically last anywhere from 3-4 months, although your injections may last even longer if you have finer lines, rather than deeper wrinkles. During your consultation, Dr. Jackson tells you what to expect and how long your treatment should last for your specific treatment area.
